Videoconferencing has been shown by almost 10,000 studies to be effective for telemental health. Our "Psychotechnologies" class will explain which technologies to use - and how.
The TeleMental Health Institute (TMHI) has been developed to meet the growing need of mental health community of professionals to better understand the role of technology in the delivery of mental health care. Our focus is to provide training to mental health clinicians, academics and researchers who want to:
- understand legal, ethical, technical and practical requirements for online counseling
- integrate research findings from over five decades of rigorous scientific expiration of mental health care delivery using technologytel
- work with existing clients and patients who seek therapy from outside a traditional psychotherapy office
- expand their reach to serve remote and currently under-served populations
- become part of a large creative group of colleagues exploring alternative delivery systems
- prepare for the inevitable integration of technology into all aspects of healthcare
- work more effectively with patients for whom the Internet and other behavior-altering technologies have become a problematic part of their lives (online infidelity, overuse, compulsive online shopping, gambling, gaming, porn, etc.)
- conduct research and supervised graduate students who are working with subjects obtained through the Internet and the other psychotechnologies
- help shape technology to better serve our communities
- understand how professionals might best pursue their own personal interests and goals online, such as when developing their own Facebook page, dating profiles, and personal websites and still meet their professional and ethical obligations
- understand and benefit from 3 other alternative revenue sources made possible by psychotechnologies
