Videoconferencing has been shown by almost 10,000 studies to be effective for telemental health. Our Audio & Video in TelePractice class will explain which technologies to use - and how.
Welcome to Our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Page
1. What can I expect if I study with the TeleMental Health Institute?
You can expect to be fully trained online, without leaving your own home or office. You will be trained by some of the industries most highly respected and accomplished leaders. You can expect a wide variety of materials, interactions and experiences to help you become more acquainted with online practice and other types of mental health service delivery.
You can have access to training materials of three types, depending on your specific needs and interests:
- Webinars -- inexpensive, timely and topic-focused 1-hour discussions to keep you up-to-date and fully informed by telephone, computer (or soon, via smartphone!)
- Overview Course -- 3 hours of easy listening or watching by MP3 (audio) or MP4 (video), just to familiarize you with general telehealth issues and concepts
- Certificate Program -- 36 hour package of comprehensive training to instruct and inspire you
- Summit - 10 hours of cutting edge information brought to your desk top in a format that will allow you to ask your questions during the entire event. This event will occur in May of 2012. Write to us here if you want details now.
2. Which formats can I expect to be using? text, audio, video?
Our formal Certificate Program is predominantly text-based, that is, you will be asked to read our web pages at our training facility. You can either print them out to read or read them online. We encourage you to read them online to become familiar with how computer functions operate. You then will be asked to answer questions to prove your competency before receiving a diploma for each course. Some courses are augmented by video or audio files. These are not mandatory for your success. Some people simply do not have the proper hardware or software, or the proper configurations on their computers to access them. If your computer cannot access them, do not worry. The audio and video files are only augmentations to our programs that contain illustrative information only. If you do not access them, you will have written explanations of the materials in our text.
Webinars focus on giving you a broad-based view of cutting-edge topics in an interview format with a leading professional in the telemental health community. They consist of primarily audio files that you can play on your computer or MP3 device of your choice to enjoy the convenience of learning on-the-go. Some of our more popular webinars are augmented by transcripts of the interview.
- Yet another feature of our environment is that we have conveniently extracted all learning points in our courses, posted them at the top of our pages for easy reference
In our Sneak Peek venue, we have developed practice tests for you to quickly identify the main issues
Our Program material is completely searchable online
You are given an online notepad to conveniently capture your thoughts
You have access to a 24/7 Community Forum called the Learning Lounge, to ask your questions and get to know like-minded, cutting edge professionals who can help you get where you want to go
You can expect that we will continue to bring you not only theory, but go a step beyond. Just as you hope to bring added services to your clients online, we hope to create experience for you that will invite you to redefine your own learning process!
3. Where can I get more information about the courses?
Details and specific course descriptions for each program are available for your consideration. A detailed topic list for the Certificate Program is also available.
4. Where do I go to get my training once I purchase a program?
Your courses are available 24/7. You will be sent an email upon enrolling and it will contain access codes for our learning environment. If you are seeking continuing education units and are on a severe deadline, we encourage you to give yourself at least 24 hours to get registered before your continuing education units are due.
5. What else should I know about TMHI "courses" and "programs"?
Our multi-modal format allows you to learn in 2 different ways, depending on your level of interest in telehealth. If you are just testing the waters, you might want to start by simply purchasing one or more webinars (1-CE) or courses (3 or 6 CEs). On the other hand, if you have a sense that telehealth is a professional path for you or your organization, you may want to choose our Certificate Programs to help you get launched in a serious and professional way.
a. Webinars and courses are delivered to you via text or recorded audio formats.
b. Our Certificate program is a much more in-depth and comprehensive experience, containing 36 hours (Certificate program) of core learning material that is largely text-based. For that text-based learning, you have the option of reading all our material in depth; reviewing only bullet points; listening to audio and videos on select topics and key learning points; interacting with your peers on any topic of your choice in our forums; handy review sessions to prepare for our exams and solidify your learning and regular, monthly tele-consults where you can ask any question and get a live answer from one of our faculty members. Our Certificate program also offers you up to 2 hours of private consultation and website auditing time with one of our faculty, as well as several other bonuses.
Regardless of your interest, all our courses and Certificate program are presented to you using the latest, cutting-edge learning environment to maximize your comfort and learning experience.
6. Where do I go to purchase my program?
You can purchase courses or the Certificate program here. Continuing education units (CEs) are optional, but included in your Program fee if you need them. Our Certificate Program represents 38 hours of Continuing Education, as approved by the associations listed below.
7. What do I need to know about getting continuing education (CE)?
CE is an optional feature in that it is not mandatory that you earn CEs. The TeleMental Health Institute has partnered with Alliant University to bring you CE for the training you complete at our facility.
Alliant International University (AIU) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AIU maintains responsibility for the program and its content. AIU is approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences to provide continuing education for MFTs and LCSWs (provider # PCE234). AIU is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing to provide continuing education for Nurses (provider # CEP11235). NOTE: Many state boards accept offerings accredited by national or other state organizations. If your state is not listed, please check with your professional licensing board to determine whether the accreditations listed are accepted.
8. Which title will I earn when I complete my Certificate Program?
Our certificate program leads to the "Certified TeleMental Health Practitioner" title. This designation is increasingly used to recognize our graduates for having completed the most comprehensive and research-based post-graduate training program available anywhere today.
Courses and both our Basic and Certificate Programs are co-sponsored by Alliant International University.
